It was decided in the Delhi Durbar of 1911 as the capital of India would be
shifted from Calcutta to Delhi. Thus was born the city of Delhi, designed by the
architect Edwin Lutyens, with Herbert Baker. It took about 20 years and 15
million pounds for the construction of New Delhi. Built as visceral Lodge, Delhi
Rashtrapati Bhawan has four floors and 340 rooms. Now known as the House
Chairman of New Delhi is spread over an area of about 200,000 square meters. It
took 18 years to build this building and 18 years of its completion India became
independent.
Jaipur Column, a gift of the Maharaja of Jaipur rises to a height of 145 m in
the center of the main courtyard in front of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Another
impressive feature of the Rashtrapati Bhawan Delhi includes gardens noted for
the beauty of Mughal. Then, at the base of the building is a spacious plaza,
known as Vijay Chowk. The copper dome of neo-Buddhist House Speaker New Delhi is
