India Gate
India Gate is a monument to the dead soldiers martyred, located in downtown New
Delhi. Standing at a height of 42 m, appears as a gateway to the heart of a
crossroads. His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone
of the Gateway of India in 1921. Designed by Edwin Lutyens, the monument is
dedicated to the country after 10 years, by the viceroy, then Irwin, Lord. He is
presented as a tribute to the 70000 Indian soldiers killed 70 during the First
World War, when fighting for the British Army. More than 13,516 British and
Indian soldiers were killed in the north of the border in the Afghan war of 1919
